The 50 Most Expensive Towns in New Hampshire

As we saw in our 2023 Year in Review Housing Report, home prices continue to rise across New Hampshire.  The average selling price for a home hit $531,598 by year’s end, an increase of 7.2% compared to 2022.

Here is a list of the most expensive towns in New Hampshire in 2023:

1. New Castle

Coming in at number one is the town of New Castle with an average home selling price of $3,113,835. With its stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Piscataqua River, New Castle offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and small-town charm. This community offers plenty of opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming, with several beaches and lakes in the area. New Castle is also a great place for fans of New England history, including historical sites such as the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel, and the Fort Constitution Historic Site. 2. Rye

The town of Rye is number two on the list! The average selling price for a home in Westport is $1,442,096. Moultonborough has an average selling price of $1,317,477 and a total of 111 homes sold in 2023. Moultonborough is a picturesque town located in the Lakes Region. 5. Newington

Placing fifth on our list, Newington had an average sales price of $1,312,500 and 8 home sales in 2023. This is one of the smallest towns in our list by population, with only 811 citizens according to the 2020 U.S. Census.  Despite its size, this tight-knit community puts on several events per year so that everyone can come together and celebrate the small-town charm Newington provides. 

6. Holderness

Holderness had 26 total home sales in 2023 with an average selling price of $1,188,037. 7. North Hampton

In 2023, North Hampton had an average home selling price of $1,155,161, making it number seven on our list. For nature lovers, one of North Hampton’s most popular attractions is the Fuller Gardens, a beautiful botanical garden. 8. Hanover

Hanover, another small town, places eight on our list, with an average selling price of $1,063,775. With just over 1,000 residents, Center Harbor is home to a close-knit community that values a peaceful and quiet lifestyle amongst nature.  

10. Hebron

Finally, the town of Hebron rounds out our top ten list. In 2023, Hebron had 20 home sales and averaged $1,022,972 in sales price. Hebron is a very quiet town with just under 900 residents. The town offers its citizens an array of mom-and-pop shops and several serene landscapes to discover. Whether you want to live by the mountains or book a private stay in one of their waterfront inns, Hebron’s atmosphere allows all to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life.
